Lifeguard – Beech Fork

DUTIES:
Under general supervision, lifeguards perform public safety work at state recreational swimming areas. Lifeguards must have a thorough knowledge of lifesaving methods, water rescue practices, and first-aid practices with emphasis on resuscitation methods, outstanding ability as a swimmer, the ability to surface dive proficiently, the ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations, and to deal with the public firmly but courteously in enforcing applicable recreation area rules and regulations. Superior strength and stamina to ensure safety in the water is required. Lifeguards may also collect swimming pool receipts, perform routine maintenance activities around the pool and grounds, collect and analyze water samples, and perform related work as required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a current lifeguarding certificate issued by the American Red Cross, BSA, the YMCA, or the YWCA. Also necessary are the possession of a current certificate in multimedia first aid or better and in possession of a current certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
