A few late flutters of the Monarch butterfly may be passing through and there are more activities that welcome fall colors of the West Virginia hills. Join Naturalist Valerie Chaney, Allen Miller and volunteers for these activities.

10:00PM The CCC Boys: A West Virginia Legacy
The CCC boys left a legacy that can still be enjoyed all over WV in the forests they planted and parks they helped to build. (30 min film)

1:00PM Monarch Migration
Let’s take a deeper look into the
protected monarch sanctuaries in Mexico. Have you ever wanted to see millions of monarchs or first hand see where they migrate to? Let’s go behind the scenes with video with Natural Habitat
Adventures, a professional tourism company that takes small groups into the monarch areas.

11:00AM-1:30PM Art with Ari
Join a local artist and our park volunteer to learn how to paint clouds on canvas. This will be a
four part series continuing on October 19, November 2 &16. This class is for all ages, and same day walk-ins. $5 Class fee.

2:30PM Wonders of the White-tailed Deer
Whether you look in awe at a newborn fawn or are frustrated because a herd of deer ate your Hostas or are angered because your car has been damaged in an accident, white-tailed deer are amazing animals. Come learn the characteristics of deer and history of white-tailed deer in WV. Let’s share some management ideas, feel a pelt, make a footprint and tell stories of this magnificent creature.

Come and visit the Tom Ambrose Nature Center at Cacapon Resort State Park! The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41. Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf! Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes. Take a park naturalist guided hike or join the daily activities!
