Take a park naturalist guided hike or join the daily activities at Cacapon Resort State Park January 27 – 31, 2023. The list is below! The Nature Center is open daily 9:30AM-4:30PM. All programs start at the nature center unless noted.
FRIDAY, January 27, 2023
10:30AM Exploring Your Senses: Seeing & Hearing
This program is for the younger kids K-2, but can still be fun for any age. Build your own paper binoculars to explore your sense of sight on a scavenger hunt. Next, let’s explore the sounds we hear while outdoors and draw what they are!
1:30PM Turkey Talk & Tracks
Learn the differences between hens and gobblers and some other fun facts! Followed by making your own turkey tracks molds.
SATURDAY, January 28, 2023
11AM-1PM Winter Seed Sowing
Join us in learning how to start seeds in a cheap and time efficient manner by using left over milk jugs. Bring your own milk jug or liter soda bottle if you would like to take one home.
2:30PM Wildflower Meadow Film
This one hour video teaches you how to landscape your yard, no matter how big or small for a wildflower meadow.

10:00AM Tai Chi
This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, & spirit. Location lodge.
10:30AM No Leaves, No Problem: All You Need is a Twig
Learn how to identify a tree in the winter time by its twig. Followed by a short
walk.
1:00PM Using a Dichotomous Key
Come explore how to use a dichotomous key. Learn the basic skills and practice them through real keys and cartoon character keys. Dichotomous keys helps you to narrow down species to come closer to the actual species. Also, use some phone apps that can help in identification as well.

1:30PM WV Bookmark Craft
Use recycled materials from WV calendars to make a beautiful bookmark.
Visit the Tom Ambrose Nature Center at Cacapon Resort State Park January 23-26, 2023! The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41. Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf! Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes.
