Bridge Day (October 15 – New River Gorge Bridge)
Held Annually at the mesmerizing New River Gorge, Bridge Day draws onlookers from around the world as BASE jumpers hurl themselves from the New River Gorge Bridge. While in the area, take advantage of picturesque Babcock State Park: more than 4,000 acres complete with cabins, camping sites, boating and fishing opportunities, scenic overlooks and the historic Glade Creek Grist Mill. Hawks Nest State Park also provides visitors with expansive views of the New River Gorge and state-of-the-art facilities and meeting rooms.
Hiking Trails
Little Beaver State Park in Raleigh County is the perfect day-trip for those who love to hit the trails. The park offers 10 hiking and biking trails, each varying in length and difficulty but all breathtaking.
Nature
Explore nature during West Virginia’s most colorful season. The 5,300-acre Camp Creek State Forest offers ample hunting, fishing and camping opportunities. Beartown State Park (open daily through October) is minimally developed to preserve unique rock formations. Basic facilities include interpretative signs and an easily accessible boardwalk. Interested in mixing both nature and culture? Check out Bluestone State Park. This park is heavily forested and offers visitors serene views and plenty of outdoor activities. Those looking to work off calories before trick or treating should check out the Pipestem Pumpkin Run, Oct 29 at 8 a.m. Twin Falls Resort State Park also has something for everyone.
