A day prior, National Trails Day Hike: Blackwater Falls

Blackwater Falls State Park is getting a head start for National Trails Day. Join naturalist Paulita for a guided National Trails Day hike, plus an afternoon program about the American Black Bear. Blackwater Falls NTD hike is on Friday, June 2, 2023 and Celebration of the American Black Bear is at 1:00 p.m. with park naturalist Paulita Cousin.

Pase Point Nature Connection Hike
Put on your favorite hiking boots and head out with the park naturalist and friends to connect with nature on this National Trails Day hike to earn your trails day patch. Explore an upland forest to an overlook of Blackwater Canyon while discovering some of the plants and animals found in the forest. This out and back trail is about three miles and takes approximately two hours with short interpretive stops. Packing at least 16 ounces of water and a snack is recommended.

Pase Point borders the Monongahela National Forest to an unrestricted rock outcropping with a spectacular view of Blackwater Canyon. Trail is intermediate with short but steep inclines. Wear sturdy shoes please. No sandals/flip flops. Meet at the nature center. You show, we go. Participants received a patch following the hike.

American Black Bear
One of the park naturalist’s favorite animals is the Black Bear of which Blackwater Falls is home to several. Come to the nature center at 1:00 p.m. today to learn about our state mammals. There will be a great program about black bears and a game that any age can play and enjoy.

A craft about this state animal is also part of the afternoon with a fee of $2.00 to cover materials. You do not have to participate in the craft to enjoy all the Black Bear fun this afternoon. Craft fee: $2.00 (activity is optional) YPP
