Visiting Blackwater Falls as the month of March arrives? Take advantage of activities and programs offered at Blackwater Falls Nature Center March 3-5, 2023.

The nature center is open from 10:00AM until 4:00PM. Visit and see exhibits, our critter displays or to ask questions about the area and the park.

Join us as we discuss bird identification and perhaps attempt to use our skills on birds visiting the bird feeders while enjoying a cup of hot coffee, tea or chocolate. About 90 minutes. YPP

Join the naturalist to weave together a pattern on a bracelet with embroidery thread. FREE. Not recommended for children under 8 years of age.

Creature Feature: Woodpecker WOW
Join the park naturalist to hear about West Virginia’s Woodpeckers. About 30 minutes. YPP

The naturalist will be roving around boardwalk to Blackwater Falls area with an interesting item. Can you guess what it is? About 1 hour. YPP

Microscopy Discovery Fun
Volunteer Beverly invites you to explore specimens from nature and have fun investigating, questioning and using observational skills all with a microscope. Microscopes limited and may need to be shared. Suitable for children ages and up. About 1 hour. YPP

Shaving Cream Art
Join the staff to use your hands, popsicle stick, watercolor paint and shaving cream to create a unique work of art on paper. Craft fee: $1.00

1:30 p.m.
Storybook, Puppets and Fun!
Join the staff for a reading of a fun book, help put on a puppet show and perhaps create a craft. About 30 minutes. YPP

2:30 p.m.
American Black Bear
Join the park naturalist to learn about our state mammal through interpretive programming, games, etc. About 1.5 hours. Craft fee: $2.00 (optional) YPP

things for young explorers on a trail. All backpacks must be signed out by an adult with a credit card and returned by 4 p.m. today.

Paint-a-Gnome
Join the staff and use colorful paint on a plaster gnome. Super fun time crafting. Craft fee: $3.00. First first serve basis.

Bears Nature Film
Let’s watch a film about the remarkable animal family that has long captured the human imagination from the mighty grizzly bear to the endearing spectacled bear. Indoors. Free to attend. About 1 hour. NR. YPP
