Winter Activities: Cacapon
January 23, 2023 – January 26, 2023
Visit the Tom Ambrose Nature Center at Cacapon Resort State Park January 23-26, 2023! The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41. Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf! Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes.
Take a park naturalist guided hike or join the daily activities listed below! The Nature Center is open daily 9:30AM-4:30PM. All programs start at the nature center unless noted.
MONDAY, January 23, 2023
10:00AM Tai Chi
This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, & spirit. This activity is located at Cacapon Lodge.
10:30AM All about Woodpeckers
Learn about their cool adaptations and how to identify them by sight and sound. Who is at the bird feeder?
1:00PM No Leaves, No Problem: All You Need is a Twig
Learn how to identify a tree in the winter time by its twig.

10:30AM West Virginia Wildlife
Come and find out what variety of wildlife is at the park. There are many wildlife pelts you can touch! Fox, bobcat, coyote, beaver & more!
1:30PM Mammal Movie
Learn some fun facts about all types of mammals. Coloring sheets provided.

10:30AM Winter Bird
Watch Enjoy a close-up view of a variety of winter visitors to the nature center’s bird feeder….maybe a goldfinch or woodpeckers such as red-bellied or a hairy woodpecker!
1:30PM All about Birds
Film Learn about our amazing feathered friends. Coloring sheets provided. All ages welcomed.

10:30AM The CCC Boys: A West Virginia Legacy
The CCC boys left a legacy that can still be enjoyed all over WV in the forests they planted and parks they helped to build. (30 min film)
