First Day Hike: Kanawha

January 1, 2023 All day

tep out in 2023 at Kanawha State Forest for a First Day Hike on January 1.
Three separate hikes are planned and each hike begins at 1:00 p.m.

The Spotted Salamander for differently abled persons(~0.25 miles)
The CCC Snipe Trail or Davis Creek Trail (tbd) for a short hike (~2 miles)
The Loop hike on Davis Creek Trail + Teaberry Rock Trail + Middle Ridge Trail + Alligator Rock Trail (~4 miles).

The Spotted Salamander hike will meet at the Spotted Salamander parking lot. The Snipe Trail and Loop hike will meet at the Nature Center to get organized and set foot at 1:00 p.m. All hikes should be completed by 3:30 p.m. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. There is no charge to participate.

First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to get people outdoors, with over 400 hikes scheduled this year in all 50 states. Kids and adults all across America will be participating in First Day Hikes, getting their hearts pumping and enjoying the beauty of a state park.
