Mid-August Activities: Bluestone

August 13, 2022 - August 15, 2022

Activities at Bluestone State Park for August 13-15, 2022 includes making giant bubbles, fishing, and some guided hikes. Naturalist Jonathan Lipscomb invites family and friends to participate in outdoor fun. Activities are open to the public and free to attend unless there is a small craft fee.

Saturday, August 13, 2022

2PM — Boundary Trail Nature Hike
Join the naturalist at the activities building to embark on a nature hike along the Boundary Trail and back along the Big Pine and Turnpike Trails. Length 5 miles; Difficulty strenuous. Long pants and closed toed shoes are strongly recommended.

6-8PM — Tie Dye
Meet at the pool house to create a one of a kind tie dye tee shirt. Park shirts are $10 or bring your own for $5 exact change taken on site or you may pay beforehand at the office.

8:30-10PM —Night Exploration
We’ll start this evening behind the activities building to learn about the nocturnal park animals and plants. We may hear an owl or frogs, see bats or birds, and feel the different temperature of the forest vs a clearing. Flashlights are encouraged. *ypp

9AM — Bird Watching and Binoculars
Meet at the wildlife viewing area beside Meador site #14 to learn the basics of binoculars and watch the birds of the lake. *ypp

11AM — Giant bubbles
Join me at the pool house to create giant bubbles and learn the science of fluid films. All ages welcome.

12PM — Candle Making
Join me by the Meador bath house to create a historic dip candle and learn about primitive lighting methods. Candles are $1, exact change accepted on site or prepay at the office. *ypp

1:30PM — Stream Walk
We’ll meet at the office to take a trip to the creek to see what organisms we
can find and learn about. Expect to have wet or muddy feet. *ypp

3:30PM — Riverview Trail Nature Hike
Meet at the office to go on a nature hike along the River view Trail. Length .5-2.5miles; Difficulty easy-moderate. *ypp

6-8PM — Tie Dye

9-11AM — Let’s go Fishing
Meet me at the fishing pier below the office for a relaxing morning of fishing. Individuals over 15 need a valid fishing license. Licenses may be purchased at wvhunt.com *ypp

2PM — Leaf Impressions
Join me behind the activities building to explore the local flora and create leaf impressions to take home. *ypp

4PM — Nature Hike
Join Naturalist Jonathan in front of the activities building for a stroll along the Turnpike and Cabin trails. Difficulty: easy; Length 1.5 miles Long pants and closed toed shoes recommended. *ypp

*ypp are young people for parks programs. These programs are focused on fun education for ages 6-16. However, all ages are welcome to attend.

** All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult
