BLACK BEARS
Learn new discoveries & fascinating facts about WV’s largest mammal. Shake hands with a bear paw & play a game to learn more! (YPP) Windy Gap Schoolyard (Old Pavilion if rainy)

BADMINTON Between the pool & tennis court, we’ll be flying birdies over the badminton net, just for fun & exercise!

FRIDAY 6/10
10 am
HIKE HIGH ROCK TRAIL with naturalist Jane (2 hours)
Bring water, wear sturdy shoes, hiking stick helpful. Meet 9:45 on office porch or 10 at bridge by tennis court

2 pm
VERY FISHY Learn the parts of a fish, fold an origami fish, then feed baby Trout in our trout rearing pond. Meet Naturalist in Old pavilion. (YPP)

4 pm
CREEK CRITTERS & LIFE CYCLE OF INSECTS
Wear shoes that can get wet, collect & identify insect larvae w/ nets or by hand. Learn which ones indicate clean streams & rivers. (YPP) Windy Gap Schoolyard

SATURDAY, 6/11

BATS – WHY WE NEED THEM
Learn the attributes of our only flying mammals and about the white-nosed syndrome that is killing up to 90% of hibernating bat species in some WV caves. Build your own bat house! (YPP) Balli Shelter

BIRD MIGRATION CHALLENGE
Meet in Windy Gap Schoolyard to play an interactive game as you learn the many hazards birds must face to reach their summer or winter homes. (YPP)

3 pm
DRAGONFLIES
Meet the fighter jets of the insect world – learn about their amazing visual abilities and make a beautiful one to take home. (YPP) Meet naturalist Jane in Windy Gap Schoolyard, Balli shelter if rainy.

All Naturalist Programs are FREE to everyone! YPP (Young People for Parks) encourages YOUTH of ages 6 – 16 to go outdoors and explore nature in our state parks. Completion of 3 naturalist programs in one week will earn a certificate; completion of 5 YPP programs will earn a pin or junior naturalist patch.
