Children of the Blennerhassett Mansion

June 18, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

“Children of the Blennerhassett Mansion” program is designed for young people (in grades 3-6) accompanied by parent(s) to learn about the children of the famous Blennerhassett Island Family.

What were the children’s names and ages, where was their bedroom in the house, and why was one child nicknamed “Little Snowdrop.” This parent/child educational event includes a Special Mansion Tour and Outdoor Activities and begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022. The program is about one hour in length.

Participants will explore the various rooms of the Mansion from a child’s perspective and learn more about the Blennerhassett children’s parents. At the end of this tour, the youth will compare the Mansion with their own homes to recognize what things are different then and now. Attendees will play some period games that the Blennerhassett children might have played and learn a children’s song from an earlier time.

This is a fun day at Blennerhassett Island! There is a fee for this one-hour event of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids. Space is limited. It is a rain or shine event. NOTE: You must purchase the Special Tour Ticket at The Blennerhassett Museum before getting on the boat. This program begins immediately when you arrive on the Island because the arrival is part of this special day. This educational event has been developed and conducted by Dick and Martha Hartley, Blennerhassett Volunteer Educators.

“Children of the Blennerhassett Mansion” is one of four special interpretative programs during the 2022 Saturday History Series held on the 3rd Saturday at Blennerhassett Historical Island State Park. Call the Blennerhassett Museum at 304-420-4800 with questions and more information.
