The end of summer is almost here and time is running out to participate in our first ever Ultimate Adventurer Challenge. This challenge is a fun way to visit new destinations and enjoy new outdoor activities at West Virginia’s state parks and forests. And each person who completes the challenge will receive an exclusive West Virginia State Parks gift pack and will be entered into a drawing for a year of free state park lodging.

How to Participate in the Adventurer Challenge

To participate in the Ultimate Adventurer Challenge, all you need to do is:

1. Request a Challenge Card

Request a challenge card to keep track of your adventures across West Virginia’s state parks and forests. Request your challenge card here to get started.

2. Complete Challenges

Complete the 10 challenges as you can or go in order. You can even double up and complete multiple challenges in a single visit. It doesn’t matter because the goal is to enjoy them all!

3. Get Your Challenge Card Stamped

As you complete challenges, get your card stamped at any state park office or gift shop.

4. Post a Photo to Social Media

Post a photo on your Twitter or Instagram account when you complete a challenge using #AlmostHeaven and #WVstateparks.

5. Submit Your Completed Challenge Card

Turn in your completed challenge card at the gift shops at Blackwater Falls, Chief Logan, Hawks Nest, Pipestem Resort, Twin Falls Resort or Tygart Lake and get an exclusive gift pack.

6. Enter to Win Free Lodging

When you turn in your challenge card, fill out an entry form to be entered to win a free year of state park lodging. Only one lucky winner will win!

Challenge 1: Stay at a State Park

Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a relaxing mountain getaway and complete your first challenge all in one trip! Book a cozy cabin at North Bend and enjoy outdoor adventures on the North Bend Rail Trail. Stay in the lodge at Chief Logan and hit the trails on the nearby Hatfield-McCoy Trails. Or spend the weekend at Tygart Lake and soak up the last rays of summer sunshine at the new Adventure Lake.

Challenge 3: Soar Through the Sky at Hawks Nest or Pipestem Resort 

Take to the skies and see West Virginia’s iconic mountain scenery like you’ve never seen it before. There are two ways to enjoy aerial views at West Virginia’s state parks.

1. Aerial tramway at Pipestem Resort

2. Pipestem Peaks Zipline Tour at Pipestem Resort

Challenge 10: Dine at a State Park Restaurant

Fuel up for your outdoor adventures by eating at a state park restaurant. Enjoy a riverside dinner at Pipestem Resort’s Mountain Creek Dining Room. Access to the restaurant is by aerial tramway, so you can double up and complete Challenge 3. Or spend the night at Mountain Creek Lodge and complete Challenge 1. Other restaurants open this summer are at Cacapon Resort, Chief Logan, Hawks Nest, North Bend, Pipestem Resort, Tygart Lake or Twin Falls Resort.
