No matter where you live in the Mountain State, you don’t have to travel far to find your way to Cedar Creek State Park. Located right in the heart of West Virginia near Glenville, Cedar Creek is quiet, peaceful and shows our beautiful state in all its true glory.

If your day job has you stressed or if you’re simply in need of some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle, let the winding country roads lead you and your family over rolling hills and through wide valleys to this beautiful park. Here’s everything you need to know to plan a perfect trip to Cedar Creek!

A place where you can get lost in the outdoors and learn about West Virginia’s past

The idyllic setting of Cedar Creek State Park will have you feeling relaxed in no time. Whether you’re casting a line into the park’s fishing ponds or sitting by your campfire, it’s easy to forget about your cares and enjoy a worry-free escape when you’re surrounded by nature.

Like most state parks, hiking is a popular activity. Check out the Park View Trail near the bridge across Cedar Creek for many scenic views of the park. Or take a meandering walk on Fisherman’s Trail for access to some of the best fishing spots in the area. You can’t go wrong with a good hike!

After a morning of outdoor activities, settle down for the afternoon with a picnic lunch as you listen to the park’s streams rippling over flat rocks. Once you’re rested, check out Cedar Creek’s one-room schoolhouse, open to visitors most Saturdays during the summer. Built in 1910, the schoolhouse has a tin roof and is furnished with a pot-bellied stove, student desks, filled bookcases and a blackboard and teacher’s desk.

If the one-room schoolhouse piques your interest in West Virginia history, check out the park office and campground check in, a restored log cabin which was formerly a Gilmer County historical landmark.
