Outdoor adventures and quality time…make this Father’s Day one for the books!
Father’s Day is Sunday, June 16, and West Virginia’s state parks and forests are a great place to spend some quality time with the dad in your life. Whether he enjoys a relaxing day on the water or chasing outdoor thrills, our parks can help you treat the dad in your life to a day he’ll never forget.
Here’s a few activities to help you plan a fun Father’s Day trip!
Family fishing fun
There’s nothing more relaxing than setting your boat out in the early morning, casting your line and kicking back for a couple of hours. If your dad likes fishing, plan a fishing trip to a park or forest. Our lakes and streams are stocked with trout, bass, bluegill and other sport fish.
There’s lake fishing at Bluestone State Park, Stonewall Resort State Park, Watoga State Park. Or reel in a big catch in a crystal clear stream at Audra State Park, Blackwater Falls State Park or Holly River. Fishing is one of the most popular activities at our parks and forests, so there are plenty more fishing lakes and streams to choose from.
Outdoor thrills at Pipestem Peaks
Is your dad adventurous? You’ll definitely want to check out the new zipline tour at Pipestem Resort State Park. This exciting new adventure has nine zips that will take you soaring through the treetops of the scenic Bluestone River Gorge. These zips go as fast as 50 mph and take you as high as 300 feet. Relax with a round of golf

After you’ve polished up your golf game, take the time to explore our resorts and enjoy their many amenities. Book an overnight stay and enjoy a relaxing golf getaway in the scenic mountains of Almost Heaven, West Virginia.
Gather round the campfire
Whether you’re dad prefers rustic camping or packing up the RV for a weekend away, West Virginia’s state parks and forests have no shortage of camping options that will get you closer to nature and closer together. Bring the RV or pitch a tent at Beech Fork State Park, Cedar Creek State Park or Kanawha State Forest. After a day of outdoor adventures, enjoy s’mores and telling stories ’round a warm campfire.
Enjoy a tasty dinner
When the day is done, settle in for the evening and enjoy a good meal with your dad at one of our restaurants. For an extra special meal, plan to attend our farm to table dinner at Pipestem Resort on Saturday, June 15. There’ll be live music, a pork roast and good times all around. And make sure you try the smoked chicken wings! There’s also special Father’s Day buffets at Chief Logan State Park and North Bend State Park.
These activities are just the start of your special day. Make a weekend out of it by staying overnight at your dad’s favorite park. There are plenty of other activities planned for Father’s Day weekend, like museum tours at Watters Smith Memorial. Check them all out on our event calendar! But no matter what you do, make sure you spend quality time with your dad this Father’s Day and make plenty of life-long memories you’ll look back on for years to come.
