Blackwater Falls Nature Programs

August 4 - August 5

Naturalist Paulita Cousin has planned a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy when visiting Blackwater Falls State Park. Take advantage of these programs at the nature center unless indicated at another location.

WEDNESDAY, August 4, 2021

Nature Center Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

10:30 a.m.
RIVER ROAD STROLL
Join the park naturalist at Gentle Trail for an informative stroll along an old railroad grade that parallels the Blackwater River. About 1 mile, 1 hour. YPP

FRIENDSHIP BRACELET CRAFT
Use embroidery floss to braid a bracelet. FREE

1:30 p.m.
WHAT’S BLOOMING WALK
Join the park naturalist to stroll along the pollinator field up to the dam of Pendleton looking for plants in bloom. Fall is approaching, the fields are changing and so are our deciduous trees. Beautiful! About 1 hour. Some walking. YPP

3:00 p.m.
FINDING YOUR WAY (Map & Compass)
This is a great introduction to how to understand and use a topographic map and compass. Program includes a short film followed by hands-on fun. About 1 hour, little walking. YPP

4:00 p.m.
ARROWHEAD NECKLACE CRAFT
Let’s create a replica arrowhead necklace or stamp a leather arrowhead. Craft fee: $1.00

BIRDS AND BLOOMS WALK
Naturalist Paulita greets you for this stroll along park trails listening and looking for feathered friends and blooming plants. About 1 mile, 1 hour. YPP

10:30 a.m.
PARACORD BRACELET CRAFT
Nature attendants Brittany and Olivia welcome you to a crafty morning. The activity is braiding a survival bracelet. Craft fee: $3.00

11:00 a.m.
WATER WONDERS
It’s only natural for a naturalist to encourage learning about the water cycle and the connection between the water cycle and all living things. Includes a fun game. About 45 minutes. All ages welcome. YPP

1:00 p.m.
FIRST SNOW FILM & FINGER PAINTING FUN
Olivia will show a film about a worried scarecrow as he observes animals prepare for winter in this kid friendly film. And some crafting fun. 30 minutes. YPP

2:30 p.m.
SAND BOTTLE ART
Brittany will help participants to use colorful sand in a pre-designed plastic necklace. Craft fee: $1.00 (supplies limited to first come and may be substituted).

4:00 p.m.
