DESCRIPTION:Join the park naturalist’s for a two-mile hike along Cacapon Mountain fire road. A group photo will be taken at Cacapon Mountain Overlook\, the highest peak in the eastern panhandle\, near 2\,100 feet elevation. This is also the location of the Almost Heaven West Virginia swing. The fire road provides breathtaking views of the area and fall colors. This easy hike will be on a mostly level fire road\, but dress with sturdy shoes and for cool morning weather. \n\n\n\nDogs on a leash are welcome\, and parking is available at the Cacapon Mountain Overlook area and along the road. Everyone earns a WonderFall Walk patch!

He has been featured on NBC’s Today Show\, in People Magazine\, on the CBS Evening News and CNN\, and has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. He won Charleston’s Vandalia Gathering-Mandolin championships in 1996\, 1997\, and 1999. DESCRIPTION:Join Kanawha State Forest Naturalist Jess Blalock for an interpretive hike along the CCC Snipe Trail where we’ll examine how microhabitats benefit the forest! Junior Naturalists will complete an investigation from Project Learning Tree to learn about the different organisms that live on\, in\, under\, and around fallen logs along the route\, and how their activities recycle nutrients back into the forest soil. Adults will learn to identify common species of wood-loving saprobic fungi\, including which ones are medicinal or edible. While this is an easy hike\, sturdy shoes and tick repellent are strongly recommended! Junior Naturalist Patch/Pin eligible program! All participants will earn a WonderFall patch.

Join us for the 2026 Farm to Table Event Series. Located deep within the Bluestone Gorge\, Mountain Creek Lodge is a small 30-room lodge and restaurant that is accessible only by aerial tramway. Chef Marion Ohlinger will be heading up this gourmet journey with a plated event that includes Gin-cured gravlax trout\, succotash sambal\, chilled buckwheat noodles\, and ramp colatura; cushaw squash stew\, venison brisket\, punkinseed-rutabega chow-chow\, and chicory dust; stewed cranberries\, pickled black walnuts\, autumn greens\, warm maple-morel vinaigrette; toasted alfalfa broth\, quail & hen-o-the-woods ravioli\, shaved radish\, and collard greens; cherrywood-smoked goose breast\, grapefruit molasses gastrique\, and smoked winter pear; finished with wild boar belly mincemeat pie\, ginseng cream\, and sweet pickled juneberries. The cash bar social starts at 6 p.m.\, and dinner is at 7 p.m. All dinners include round-trip aerial tramway transport from the Canyon Rim Center to Mountain Creek. \n\n\n\nThe price for this unforgettable dinner event is $95 per person\, all inclusive. SUMMARY:Wings of Wonder-Live Birds of Prey: North Bend State Park
DESCRIPTION:Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) is live at North Bend State Park on November 14th at 4PM. The educational birds are a great opportunity to learn what birds say “who cooks for me\, who cooks for you all?” as well as meeting other raptors. \n\n\n\nThis nature program is all about raptors native to West Virginia: hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and owls. You’ll learn about the habitat\, diet and behavior of each bird presented\, the most common causes of injury to each species and the laws protecting these special birds. \n\n\n\nThere is no fee to attend. Open to the public\, the program lasts about an hour and is staged at the Douglass conference room at our lodge. Questions are welcomed. This is a family friendly event. An excellent presentation for all ages. Join us with Three Rivers Avian Center and to meet the birds of prey.
