Spring is almost here and that means wedding season is about to begin! If you’re looking for a beautiful wedding location or scenic spot where you can pop the question, you won’t find a better place than a West Virginia state park. From lakeside views to mountaintop overlooks, our parks offer a variety of romantic locations that will make your special day memorable. As you plan your proposal or wedding day, here’s 10 parks you’ll want to check out.

Blackwater Falls State Park

Rife with stunning scenery, from the 57-foot cascade of Blackwater Falls to the awe-inspiring overlooks of Blackwater Canyon, it’s easy to see why Blackwater Falls is a favorite destination for honeymooners. The park has several venue options for your event and catering is available from the park restaurant. Overnight accommodations are available at the lodge and in 39 guest cabins.

Pro Tip: Blackwater Falls is an ideal venue for winter weddings, when the park is blanketed in snow and the falls freeze over. Planning a winter honeymoon, but don’t want to travel south? Winter sports offered at Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley state parks include sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Tygart Lake State Park

Have you always dreamed of beach wedding but don’t want to travel hundreds of miles away to tie the knot? Tygart Lake will give you the serene beauty of a beach (with the added benefit of having West Virginia’s iconic mountain scenery as a backdrop) without the hassle of planning a destination wedding. Plan an indoor ceremony at the lodge with views of the lake, or take your big day lakeside and say “I do” at the park’s gazebo.

Tygart Lake’s lodge has a restaurant with on-site catering and plenty of overnight accommodations, so everything you and your guests will need is already there.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking for a romantic place to pop the question or take engagement or wedding photos, drive over to nearby Valley Falls State Park. A series of four picturesque falls created by the dark, rushing waters of the Tygart Valley River make this park especially beautiful against a fall backdrop when the leaves change.

Hawks Nest State Park

With its stunning views of the New River Gorge, Hawks Nest is a perfect setting for romance. The park offers several options for wedding venues, from banquet halls to stone picnic pavilions, while its scenic overlooks are ideal for wedding photos. Accommodations are available at the park lodge, which has a full-service restaurant with catering.

Pro Tip: The park is only a short drive from Babcock State Park, home of the iconic Glade Creek Grist Mill, which makes a beautiful setting for wedding or engagement photos.

Additional lodging is available in the park’s three new cottages overlooking scenic mountains and valleys.

Pro Tip: Invite your guests to check out the park’s must-do activities. Depending on the season, there’s Museum in the Park, a collection of local and regional art and history; an outdoor live Wildlife Exhibit; and the Christmas in the Park, a drive-through light display and holiday celebration.

Cacapon Resort State Park

Set on the east side Cacapon Mountain, Cacapon Resort offers an enticing getaway for couples and wedding parties. The lodge provides several venue options as well as in-house catering. Consider booking your wedding party at The Old Inn, a 12-room vintage log cabin-style lodge that can accommodate up to 32 people. The park also has a main lodge with a full-service restaurant, and 31 guest cabins.

Pro Tip: Have plans to enjoy your honeymoon at Cacapon Resort? Pop over to Berkeley Springs State Park for a couples massage or Roman bath soak in soothing, warm mineral waters.

Pipestem Resort State Park

If it’s breathtaking scenery you want for your proposal or wedding, Pipestem Resort offers the best of both worlds. This park has two lodges, so there’s plenty of options for your big day. Invite your entire extended family for a wedding at McKeever Lodge, which has 113 rooms and provides mountaintop views of the Bluestone Gorge. Or enjoy a more intimate ceremony at Mountain Creek Lodge, which has peaceful, creekside views at the bottom of the gorge and is accessible only by the park’s aerial tram. The park also has several restaurants and catering is available.

Pro Tip: Stay overnight and invite your guests to become some of the first to experience exciting new adventures coming to Pipestem, from zipline canopy tours to guided fishing trips and lake activities.
