Tomlinson Run State Park Activities

Tomlinson Run State Park offers a range of traditional park activities including hiking, fishing, boating and swimming. The park also offers unique camping experiences with its yurt and camper cabin rentals.

    Biking

    Gear up and grab your cycle for some lush scenery on the trails of Tomlinson Run. Follow a grade suitable for everyone, casual and professional riders alike. With the rush of the breeze and thrill of the ride, there are sure to be smiles all around.

    Boating

    Grab the family and soak up the sun on Tomlinson Run Lake. Rowboat, kayak and paddleboat rentals are available on the boat docks for aquatic fun that everyone will enjoy. Rentals are available Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Boat rentals are seasonal, closing Labor Day and reopening by Memorial Day Weekend.

    Fishing

    Tomlinson Run State Park is a great place to fish for bass, catfish, bluegill and trout. Whether you cast a line solo or with a loved one, you’re sure to reel in some cherished memories. But before you head out, purchase a current West Virginia fishing license, available at www.wvfish.com.

    Geocaching

    Discover buried treasure beneath the greenery in Tomlinson Run State Park. With geocaching, a technological scavenger hunt, you can find the 11 cache sites hidden throughout the park. Best of luck on your journey!

    Golf

    Tee off in Tomlinson on the fun-filled miniature golf course. The course is open Thursday through Monday from 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. You can also check out the 18-hole disc golf course, putting a unique twist on the game you love.

     

    For traditional golf in a peaceful setting, visit Olgebay Resort in Wheeling. Four greens are available with premium designs by legends of the sport, including Arnold Palmer and Robert Trent Jones Sr.

    Hiking

    Explore amid the mountains and lakeshore in Tomlinson Run State Park. Follow the trails offered around the park, or create your own. There is a wonder to be discovered at every corner. Be sure to stop by the park office for a trail map with details on distance and level of difficulty.

    Horseback Riding

    There are no horseback accommodations in Tomlinson Run, but you are never too far from a chance to explore with your stallion of choice. Oglebay Resort provides an enjoyable experience for every rider, no matter their skill level. They offer trail rides, horseback riding lessons, pony rides, camps and more.

    Museums & Historical Sites

    Take a trip to Wheeling for the West Virginia Independence Hall: The Birthplace of the Mountain State. This grand building dates back to 1860 and now has exhibits, battle flags, period offices and a restored courtroom to highlight its historic significance.

     

    Check out the Homer Laughlin China Factory in Newell for a tour of some fascinating dining culture. The factory features showcases early appearances of Fiesta dinnerware, the now widely popular culinary brand.

    Outdoor Adventures

    Not far from the pool area are basketball and volleyball courts, miniature golf and playground equipment for more outdoor fun. Miniature golf is open Friday-Sunday seasonally, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The park also has an 18-hole disc golf course.

    Swimming

    Tomlinson Run’s recreational facilities include a swimming pool with a waterslide, a bathhouse complex and a snack bar. The swimming pool is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day from noon until 7:30 p.m. The pool boasts an 182-foot figure eight-shaped water slide. Rates for swimming at Tomlinson Run State Park are $7 for swimmers 12 and older and $5 for swimmers under 12. Days of operation in the later part of August may vary based on the availability of lifeguards. During the summer, the park opens its pool and waterslide. A one-day pass includes swimming pool access, miniature golf and paddle or row boat use for purchase at the park headquarters or the campground office.
