Panther State Forest Activities
During the summer, visitors to Panther State Forest can cool off in the swimming pool or watch little ones splash in the wading pool. Picnic shelters are available for rent. Panther Creek is stocked with fresh trout, and in-season hunting is welcome in designated areas with proper licensing.
Camping
Panther State Forest has an improved rustic campground with six different sites. The campsites stretch along Panther Creek, with electrical hookups, fireplaces and picnic tables. Water access is available at the park office, about 2.5 miles from the campground. Panther also has a group camp consisting of a 60-person barracks-style house and a main building with a modern kitchen, fireplace and a large open area for meetings and banquets. The group camp area has a large, open field with a volleyball and basketball court, a campfire ring and hiking trail access to the fire tower and swimming pool.
Fishing
The springtime brings a change in the air and a four-mile section of Panther Creek, freshly stocked with trout. Be sure to have a proper fishing license and stamps. You can purchase one online before heading to Panther.
Hiking
Rekindle your relationship with nature by hiking through undisturbed forestry. Hikers have access to miles of connecting trails and roadways with anticipated discovery. All gated roads are open to foot traffic. Be sure to pick up a trail guide before you head out.
Hunting
Panther State Forest is known for its deer (bow only), turkey, squirrel, bear, raccoon and grouse hunting. There is no hunting permitted in designated safety zones. A West Virginia hunting license is required and available for purchase online.

Swimming
Escape the summer heat with a dip in Panther’s swimming pool. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, it is ideal for you and your family to cool off. Fun for all ages, there is even a wading pool for the little ones to splash around. Hours of operation can vary and evening rentals are available by advanced reservation.
