Greenbrier State Forest Activities
Greenbrier State Forest delivers secluded natural beauty with a wide range of recreational options like fishing, swimming, hiking and mountain biking. The forest is just a stone’s throw away from the charming and historic towns of White Sulphur Springs and Lewisburg, so visitors can enjoy a day of solitude communing with nature, then venture out for shopping, dining and the arts. With cabins and camping, Greenbrier State Forest is also an ideal base camp for bicyclists on the neighboring Greenbrier River Trail.
Camping
Greenbrier State Forest has a 16-unit campground suitable for tents and trailers. Each site offers an electric hookup, a picnic table, an on-site and central bathhouse. The campground is open from mid-April through October 31.
Biking
Bike like a pro in no time at the Greenbrier State Forest. Nineteen miles are available for every skill level of mountain biker. Get some great exercise while enjoying some of the best views in the state and make memories that will last a lifetime. Trail maps are available at the park office and online.
Fishing
Cast a line at these top-notch streams and lakes near the Greenbrier State Forest. The Greenbrier River and other opportunities offer some of the finest smallmouth bass, trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish and walleye fishing in the eastern United States. Proper licenses and stamps are required and available online.
Golfing
The grass is always greener on the golf course! Check out the nearby Greenbrier Resort. With three featured resort courses, a private course and a nine-hole par three walking course, you’ll never miss an unforgettable tee-off time.
Hiking
Greenbrier State Forest has plenty of activities for those who like to explore and unwind in nature. Guests may hike or bike across nearly 19 miles on the forest’s 14 trails, which vary in length and difficulty. The trails entangle the forest, offering glimpses of rare Kate’s Mountain flora and a fitness trail near the picnic area. Several miles of forest management roads provide additional hiking and biking opportunities.
Hunting

Outdoor Adventures
Try some sporty competition with family and friends! Other recreational opportunities at Greenbrier State Forest a rifle range and a disc golf course. Playground equipment is available at the picnic areas, and a heated pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Rafting
The Greenbrier River is a popular destination for rafting and tubing, with nearly 200 miles at your disposal for some water-based adventure. The Greenbrier River Campground offers guided trips on multiple kinds of watercraft, including canoes and kayaks.
Swimming
Hours of operation are 11:30a a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, beginning on Memorial Day weekend and through Labor Day weekend. The State Fair of West Virginia, held in nearby Fairlea each August may alter operation hours and days.
The bathhouse and pool are fully accessible at Greenbrier State Forest. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years old. Hours and days of operation are subject to change.
