Beech Fork State Park Activities
Beech Fork State Park offers more than 3,000 acres of land and 31 miles of shoreline, which are perfect for camping, hiking, lakeside activities, fishing, boating and much more. Beech Fork is within close proximity to Huntington and Barboursville, making it the perfect getaway for everyone who wants to escape the hustle, yet remain close to charming towns.
Biking
Ready to take your mountain bike for a spin? Journeys on two wheels at Beech Fork State Park are made possible by more than 14 miles of hiking and biking trails, all open year-round. Bike trails differ in difficulty and boast scenic views no matter where you are.
Boating
Beech Fork Lake offers recreational boating, fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities the whole family can enjoy! Canoes, kayaks, jon boats, paddle boats and stand up paddle boards are available to rent at the park’s boat dock, which is open Memorial Day through Labor Day from noon to 8 p.m. Life jackets are required and provided with rentals. To rent a boat, you must be 16 or older and provide valid identification.
Beech Fork also has a paved boat launch, open April to November. The park does not charge a launch, recover or usage fee. Call the park office at (304) 528-5794 for further boat launch information.
A separate launch ramp at Beech Fork Marina in Lavalette is not located at Beech Fork State Park. For more information about Beech Fork Marina and its daily usage fees, call (304) 522-9374.
Camping
Beech Fork offers 275 campsites in four distinct camping areas, of which 99 campsites are lakefront. All of the park’s campgrounds have full-service bathhouses and restroom facilities.
- The year-round Old Orchard campground offers coin-operated laundry as well as full hook-ups with 50-amp electric, water and sewer. Free Wi-Fi is available at the bathhouse only.
- Moxley Branch campground is open mid-April through mid-October, with a choice of 30-amp electric or non-electric sites.
- Four Coves and Lakeview campgrounds are 30-amp electric only. Four Coves campground is open mid-April through October, and Lakeview campground is open April through mid-November.
- Campsites in Old Orchard and Moxley Branch campgrounds are available for reservation from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Fishing
Beech Fork State Park is an ideal destination to cast a line. You can enjoy fishing for the lake’s popular largemouth and hybrid striped bass, crappie, catfish, sauger and bluegill. The lake’s 31 miles of shoreline provide more than enough spots for you to perch your chair while you wait for a tug. A fishing license is required.
Hiking
For hikers, Beech Fork State Park is the perfect destination to get some scenic steps in. Hiking, walking and biking trails are shown on the park map and trail guide. Be sure to strap on some comfortable hiking footwear, water and snacks for the ultimate adventure.
Golf
Several beautiful golf facilities are located near Beech Fork State Park. Esquire Country Club in Barboursville, West Virginia, offers a par 72 course with 18 holes. Just six miles south of Huntington, guests to the park can also stop by Sugarwood Golf Club, a public course.
Hunting
At more than 7,000 acres, the Beech Fork WMA abounds with wildlife. Thick forests shelter deer, grouse, waterfowls, rabbits and much more. A day in the woods within the Beech Fork WMA is a memory that you will cherish for years to come. Hunting licenses are available online if you don’t have one.
Swimming
Get a few backstrokes in or just relax in the swimming pool at Beech Fork State Park. The pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It can also be rented after hours by private parties. The pool has a bathhouse and a snack bar open to park guests and the general public.
