Traditional Park Fun: Holly River

July 21 - July 23

Naturalist Jane Birdsong invites one and all to activities at Holly River State Park July 21 – 23, 2022. Attendance is free. Participation is fun. Because, by golly, it’s Holly!

THURSDAY, JULY 21, 2022
2 pm
TREE ID WALK (YPP)
Meet the park naturalist on the office porch for a short stroll around the building to learn some of our Holly River trees by leaf shape and bark. Make a rubbing of your favorites to take home.

4 pm
ARCHERY
Learn to hold a bow, load arrows, target shoot & long shots. Look for naturalist at the archery range in the game field across from the office.

Webster Springs Elementary School is Visiting

FRISBEE FRIDAY
Catch the flying saucers as you jump off the diving board at the pool.

ARCHERY

SATURDAY, JULY 23, 2022

ANIMAL TRACKS
Meet the park naturalist in Windy Gap Schoolyard (Balli Shelter if rainy) where we’ll learn to identify the tracks of our most common mammals & birds. (YPP)

2 pm
BIRD MIGRATION CHALLENGE (YPP)
Experience the hazards birds must face as we play an interactive game in Windy Gap Schoolyard.
Each “bird” follows a path to reach the next rest stop. Will you make it to your summer home?

4 pm
ARCHERY
Learn to hold a bow, load arrows, target shoot & long shots. Look for naturalist at the archery range in the game field across from the office.

All Naturalist Programs are FREE to everyone! YPP (Young People for Parks) encourages youth of ages 6 – 16 to go outdoors and explore nature in our state parks. Completion of 3 naturalist programs in one week will earn a certificate; completion of 5 YPP programs will earn a patch.
