Nature Wonder Weekend: North Bend

The National Wild Foods Association’s annual Nature Wonder Weekend at North Bend State Park is brimming with richness in wild edibles – many are in your backyard. This weekend, September 16-18, 2022, is devoted to nature and includes featured leaders, teachers and authors: Vicky Shufer of Virginia Beach, a therapeutic herbalist and David Hawkins of Mother Earth Foods in Parkersburg, W.Va. are keynote speakers. Participation in the weekend is fee based and advanced registration is required.

A variety of hikes and multiple workshops include wild edible identification, preparation and preservation. The traditional wild food contest and social hour find Friday evening wild food and wild cake activities are lively and the Saturday social hour and wild drink contest are
favorites.

Although wild foods are featured throughout the weekend, five traditional Appalachian style meals are part of the weekend package. The lodging options vary and are personalized to suit your needs. Nature Wonder Weekend is made possible by the host site of North Bend State Park, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and the National Wild Foods Association.
