Geology Rocks!: Blackwater Falls - August 3, 2022

It’s a rockin’ weekend at Blackwater Falls State Park. Your state geologists welcome ‘rockers’ to an evening program about the geology of West Virginia. You’ll discover more about rocks, minerals and fossils during the evening presentation held at Blackwater Falls Lodge at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2022. The program is free to attend and open to the public.

Have you ever asked ‘Is there gold in these WV hills?’ or “What is an earthquake?” This program is for you. Youth and adults alike may skip a stone on water, but do you know the geology of the Mountain State ? Geology rocks! Join us.

This program is presented by geologists of the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey and hosted by Blackwater Falls State Park staff and Paulita Cousin, Park Naturalist. A Thursday morning, August 4, 2022 Rock Hike is planned at 10:00 a.m. at Pendleton Point Overlook. A Geology Rocks patch is a memento for participating.

The Geology Rocks game will be located in the nature center area for groups or families to have some fun learning about the geology of West Virginia and getting a little exercise.
