Full Worm Moon Hike: Cass

March 19, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Today’s hike is both a Full Moon Hike and a Green Day Hike invitation. Come hike.

Hike by the light of a full or near full moon at Cass on March 19, 2022.

The “Worm Moon” hike at Cass Scenic Railroad begins from the visitors center (to the left of the Company Store facing the store) at 6:30 p.m. The evening walk is about three miles round trip with a slight grade, but mostly flat walking. Please wear sturdy winter footwear and clothing. Hike will be led by Park Superintendent Marshall Markley. The hike is open to the public and fee free.

This hike is one of the Green Day Hike activities. In mid-March spring greening may be occurring, however, more than likely there will be snow. Folks hiking the Full Moon Hike will also be a Green Day Hike participant and receive a patch at the conclusion.

March’s full Moon name is known as the Worm Moon according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac comes from a number of places, including Native American, Colonial American, and European sources. Traditionally, each full Moon name was applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred, not only to the full Moon.

March’s full Moon goes by the name Worm Moon, which was originally thought to refer to the earthworms that appear as the soil warms in spring. This invites robins and other birds to feed—a true sign of spring!
