Noon.
Meet at the parking lot at the end of Henry Clay Road to start the hike down to the furnace. This is a fairly steep 1-mile trail (each way) and there is parking for trailers so you can still come hike! There are no restrooms located where the hike starts.
About the Henry Clay Furnace
The Henry Clay Furnace, was the first steam powered blast furnace in West Virginia, and is an impressive square tower that stands 30 feet high made of local cut-stone. The furnace was used to smelt raw iron ore from the surrounding area into pig iron. Its remains are an imposing reminder of the region’s rich iron industry history.
While at Coopers Rock, enjoy the hiking trails, visit the trading post, and be sure to spend time at the overlook and scenery.
