Autumn is approaching and activities at Blackwater Falls August 25 – 28, 2022 include heritage arts and outdoor thinking. Activities begin at the nature center and are hosted by Kenny Noland unless noted otherwise. Join in the fun.

THURSDAY, August 25, 2022
Nature Center Closed

11:00 a.m.
Edible and Medicinal Plant Walk
Meet on the front porch of the Nature Center as he picks out a few plants along a short hike that have edible or medicinal qualities. About 1 hour. ½ mile. YPP

Herb Garden Craft
Let’s learn about herbs while planting herbs for your home. About 30 minutes. Craft fee $2.00. YPP

Finding Your Way & Craft
This film introduces you to finding your way using a map and compass. About 30 minutes. After-
wards Join the attendant to create a cardboard compass . Craft fee: $2.00. YPP

Natural Cordage
Learn some basics about creating cordage from plants. About 30 minutes. YPP

Fox tales & Craft
Enjoy this nature film about a fox family living in Newfoundland, Canada. About 1 hour. FREE fox puppet craft during program. YPP

Truth or Lie Stroll
Kenny interprets along the Pendleton Trace trail and it’s up to you to discover what is the truth and what is the lie. About 1 hour, 1/4 mile. YPP

Butterfly Watercolor Craft
Join the staff to use watercolor to create a butterfly. Craft fee: $2.00

12:00 p.m.
BEE bracelet Craft
Join the attendant to create a Beautiful bracelet in support of bees. Craft fee: $2.00 YPP

1:00 p.m.
Let’s Talk Turkey & Craft
Its all about the Wild Turkey and how they became the success story for conservation. Afterwards, paint a pre-designed turkey suncatcher for your window. About 45 minutes. Craft fee: $1.00 YPP

2:00 p.m.
The Buzz on Bees & Craft
Isn’t it funny how a bear loves honey, Buzz Buzz Buzz. Learn about honey bees and native bees then create a mason bee house for your home. Craft fee: $3.00. YPP

3:00 p.m.
Large Flower Craft
Join the staff to paint an oversized flower. Craft fee: $3.00

Scenic Overlook Nature Stroll
Meet Kenny at Pendleton Point Salt Sands Sign for this easy and interpretive stroll around the overlook. About 1 hour. Some walking. YPP

11:00 a.m. Jewelry Craft & Movie with the attendant
Use embroidery floss to weave together a bracelet (Free) or create a paracord bracelet ($4.00) or an arrowhead necklace ($1.25) or pendant stone necklace ($1.50) Weaving and braiding may be difficult for young children. The Rated G film takes you on a journey of two adversaries that become friends. . About 1.5 hours. YPP

Lightning Bugs
Learn how to identify these insects (they are beetles!) their importance and a little more about fireflies. Create a glowing firefly during the program if you want. Craft fee: $2.00 YPP

Celestial Wind Chime Craft
Join the attendant to paint this wind chime. Craft fee: $2.00

3:00 p.m.
Sit ‘n go Nature–BATS
Kenny shares information about bats found in West Virginia. Bats do very good things for the environment and some bats need our help for survival. About 20 minutes. YPP

3:30 p.m.
Bat Craft
Join the attendant to scratch a bat craft for a hanging decoration.
Craft fee: $1.00
