Blackwater Falls State Park

Feel the adrenaline rush as you embark on the longest sled run on the East Coast at Blackwater Falls. Descend a quarter-mile stretch of pristine snow, then catch a ride back up the hill on the convenient conveyor belt. It’s worth noting that the sled run is incredibly popular and frequently sells out, so be sure to secure your tickets in advance!

For those seeking tranquility amidst the snow-blanketed forest, Blackwater offers many trails suitable for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Keep in mind that this sport relies on natural snow, but you can easily rent equipment at the park.

Canaan Valley Resort State Park

When people dream of a winter getaway, Canaan Valley Resort checks all the boxes. Downhill skiing and snowboarding? Check. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing? Check. Tubing? Check. There’s even an ice-skating rink!  All the equipment for these activities can be rented from the park

With 47 trails catering to all ages and skill levels, Canaan Valley Resort ensures everyone can enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Additionally, the resort collaborates with Challenged Athletes of West Virginia to offer specialized adaptive equipment and skilled instructors for individuals with disabilities.

Challenge your friends and family to thrilling races down the slopes at Canaan’s multi-lane tubing park. Stretching 1,200 feet in length, it’s one of the Mid-Atlantic’s longest snow tube parks, complete with a conveyor belt for a speedy return to the hill’s peak.

During winter, the golf course transforms into a haven for cross-country skiers and snowshoers, with over 20 miles of marked and ungroomed trails open for exploration. (Please note that cross-country trails depend on natural snow.)

Strap on your ice skates and practice those figure eights! Located behind the main lodge, the outdoor covered ice rink provides a breathtaking view of Canaan Valley and the Allegheny Mountains, making it an ideal spot for both romantics and the young at heart.
