Valley Falls State Park Activities

Valley Falls State Park is known for its half-mile long set of cascades, outdoor recreation and stunning scenery. In addition to the beautiful views, Valley Falls offers miles of hiking, biking trails, fishing and kayaking.

During the winter months, the park access road may be closed due to inclement weather; please call the park office at 304-367-2719 to check on conditions.

    Biking

    Valley Falls State Park offers 18 miles of trails packed with captivating scenery. You cannot help but stop and marvel or snap a photo to share with loved ones. On your journey, keep an eye out for the stone remains of the historic grist mill and lumber mills.

    Camping

    Valley Falls is a day-use park, but you’re never far from a campground in West Virginia. Check out these nearby parks for a rustic overnight stay:

    Fishing

    Anglers of all levels can gear up along the shores of Valley Falls State Park. Access to the Tygart River is also available at Camp Towles, just a quick drive south of the park. Proper licensing and stamps are required and may be purchased online.

    Museums and Historical Sites

    Prickett’s Fort State Park boasts historic Re-enactments through costumed interpreters, trade workshops and tours to memorialize life on the Virginia frontier during the 18th century. The park is just north of Fairmont, WV, and features a reconstructed refuge fort. Visit today and bask in this showcase of cultural significance.

    Are you ready for a technological scavenger hunt? Grab a smartphone with GPS capabilities and head out to find some buried treasure. Be sure to bring along items of your own to replace what you find for the next explorer.

    Hike ’til your heart’s content! There are 18 miles of trails with captivating views for visitors to enjoy. The trails vary in difficulty, from a level path for beginners to a steep incline for veteran hikers. With the trickle of the falls and a subtle breeze, you feel at peace when exploring the wonders of Valley Falls State Park.

    Kayaking

    Although swimming and wading is not allowed at Valley Falls State Park, both whitewater kayaking and recreational kayaking are available. Whether you are looking for the exhilaration of running whitewater or the relaxing waters before the falls, both can be found here. You must provide your own watercraft and safety equipment.
