Cedar Creek State Park Activities
Set on 2,588 wooded acres near Glenville in West Virginia’s central region, Cedar Creek State Park’s rolling hills and wide valleys provide an ideal backdrop for a variety of recreational activities. The park is home to three small ponds, 14 miles of hiking trails, a miniature golf course, an outdoor pool and more. Two of the park’s unique features include a reconstructed one-room schoolhouse and restored log cabin, which serves as the campground check-in station.
Biking
Blaze through the trails on a mountain bike and see nature from a whole new perspective. Be sure to pick up a map of the trails before you set out on your cycling adventure.
Boating
Visit North Bend State Park for a tranquil day on the 305-acre lake. Jon boats, pontoons, canoes and kayaks are available for rent. Burnsville Lake and Wildlife Management Area also is an option for kayaking.
Camping
Cedar Creek’s campground has 75 standard sites with running water and electric hookups and picnic table, and three centrally located bathhouses and one central laundry facility. Firewood and ice are available at the check-in station and a park store stocks grocery items.
Fishing
The three ponds at Cedar Creek are stocked with trout in January and March and stocked with catfish in May. Other species in these waters include muskie, bass, crappie and bluegills. The ponds at Cedar Creek State Park are not open to boats or other personal floatation vessels and there are no launching areas.
You can also cast a line in Cedar Creek, which runs through the park. Species in Cedar Creek include smallmouth bass, muskie, longnose gar, rock bass and bluegill. Purchase your fishing license at wvfish.com.
Geocaching
Think you can find some hidden treasure? Enjoy geocaching – the technological scavenger hunt. Test your navigation skills and find the park’s cache site. All you need is a great team (or explore solo) and a smartphone with GPS. Also bring an item or two to leave behind for the next explorer.

Golf
Cedar Creek has a miniature golf course that’s challenging yet fun for folks of all ages. If you prefer a more traditional game, head to the nearby Glenville Golf Club. The par-35 course has nine holes, cart rentals and a putting green.
Hiking
Take a blissful hike through nature at Cedar Creek State Park. The park has 14 miles of hiking trails that offer everything from a leisurely stroll to a challenging adventure.
Museums and Historical Sites
Get a feel for the Mountain State’s pioneer days. Job’s Temple (near Glenville) roughly dates to 1861. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, it’s one of the oldest churches in West Virginia. The Bulltown Historic Area in Burnsville is another treat. Civil War trenches and graves remain today. You can also visit a history center, which has costumed staff and exhibits.
Outdoor Adventures
Want to challenge some friends to a game? Cedar Creek has a miniature golf course as well as facilities for tennis, basketball, volleyball, croquet and softball. Paddleboats are available for rent on the ponds. The ponds are seasonally stocked with trout and catfish. Personal flotation vessels are not permitted on the ponds.
Picnicking
Host a family get-together in a beautiful location. Several picnic sites and three large-group picnic shelters are located throughout the park and available for reservation. Book ahead to beat the crowd.
Swimming
Take a swim in the pool to cool off from fun in the sun! The park’s outdoor heated swimming pool is open daily from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend from noon until 6:45 p.m.
