Canaan Valley Resort State Park Activities

Canaan Valley Resort State Park is known for its unparalleled natural beauty and winter recreational activities. Hit the slopes for a full day of skiing or tubing. More than just a one-season wonder, the park also has plenty to keep you entertained in the spring, summer and fall — from hiking and mountain biking to fishing and golf. Lace up your boots and tackle the trails in the morning, and then spend the afternoon being pampered at the spa. It’s the best of both worlds. Canaan Valley offers a quiet, peaceful setting for you to unwind and refresh your mind and body.

    Biking

    Come enjoy the beautiful mountains on 18 miles of wide-open biking trails. There’s a route for all skill levels here, so no one gets left behind. You’ll find all trails are marked in the park guides available at the park office. Pick up one up before you head out on a new adventure! The park is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

     

    Beginner and intermediate riders will also enjoy Canaan Valley Resort’s 6.2-mile, NICA certified multi-use mountain bike trail, built to IMBA standards.

    Camping

    Canaan Valley Resort State Park’s campground features 59 sites with full hookups, two primitive sites, wooded sites, laundry and shower facilities with all the amenities of the resort right at your fingertips.

    Fishing

    During your stay at Canaan Valley Resort State Park, enjoy fishing at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Visit wvfish.com to purchase your fishing license.

    Geocaching

    Seven different hidden cache sites are ready to be found for geocachers at Canaan Valley. All you need is a spirit for adventure and a smartphone with GPS. Don’t forget to bring a small object or two of your own for the next explorer who finds the geocache!

    Golf

    One of Canaan’s most popular activities is the 18-hole, par 72 course designed by Geoffrey Cornish. This challenging course is ranked 12th in the state and offers mountain beauty you’ll remember for years to come. Both experienced and novice golfers alike will enjoy this beautiful course, which is open April though November.

    Hiking

    Need to spend some quality time with nature? Explore Canaan Valley’s gorgeous views, wildflowers and wildlife along 18 miles of trails. You will find some of the most serene spots in the entire state park on your hike.

    Outdoor Adventure

    Grab your friends and head outdoors! Aside from hitting the trails on foot or by bike, you can also try out sporting clays or the scenic chairlifts, open during the summer season. Don’t forget the Turtle Slide Tube Ride and a climbing wall the whole family can conquer. Don’t feel like climbing, but still want to reach new heights?     An archery range features five ground-level shooting lanes – with each lane is equipped with a standard 3’ round target set with a range from 10 to 35 yards. Enhance your outdoor experience with a round of Clay Shooting at the Sporting Range, located at the Bald Knob trailhead at the resort’s Ski Area in warmer weather months.

    Snow Sports

    Thanks to its high elevation and annual snowfall of about 180 inches, Canaan Valley Resort has a lengthy season for snow sports and recreation. The park has 47 trails for downhill skiers and snowboarders as well as trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Canaan Valley Resort also has a tubing park and covered ice rink.

    Swimming

    Canaan’s outdoor pool is open to guests to enjoy and unwind after some adventuring. Swimming lessons are also offered for a fee. Game courts are located right next to the pool for a quick break in the sun. Canaan Valley Resort also offers an indoor pool and hot tub for those who want enjoy the water indoors.
