Bluestone State Park Activities

Bluestone State Park is full of outdoor activities, including boating and fishing. Visitors can also enjoy camping, hiking, swimming and other outdoor adventures. Not far from Bluestone, you’ll also find opportunities for biking, golf, ziplining, horseback riding, hunting and snow sports.

    Biking

    Rent a bike at Pipestone Resort State Park and pedal over miles of exquisite mountain scenery. Rentals are available by the hour, half or full day.

    Boating

    Hit the water to experience the best of Bluestone! Bluestone’s 2,040-acre lake is the state’s third largest body of water. Public boat launches are available on the Bluestone River and at Bluestone Lake. Fishing boats, pontoon boats, kayaks and canoes are available for rent at Bluestone marina.     Camping

    Bluestone State Park has four campgrounds with 120 campsites. The Meador Campground has 32 sites open to RVs and tents with electric and water available at seven of the sites, electric at 15 sites, and a central bathhouse also on-site. Seasonal closure of Meador Campground occurs November 1. The tent area campground has five rustic sites and is designed for group camping. Seasonal closure of tent area campground occurs November 1.

     

    Old Mill Campground, open to tents and RVs, has 44 rustic campsites and a central bathhouse. Seasonal closure of Old Mill Campground occurs after Labor Day. East Shore Campground has 39 primitive sites accessible by boat only and open mid-April through late October.

    Fishing

    If you love fishing, Bluestone is the place for you! Bluestone Lake is a prime bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill fishing spot. Proper license and stamps are required and may be purchased online at wvfish.com.

    Golf

    Nearby Pipestem Resort State Park has two courses that will keep your game sharp. Try the championship 18-hole green or the short—but tricky—9-hole, par 3 course. Packages and cart rentals available.

    Hiking

    Clear your mind and walk through Bluestone’s mountain beauty! The park has more than eight miles of stunning hiking trails, just waiting to be explored.

    Hunting

    The nearby Bluestone Wildlife Management Area is a favorite spot for hunters. Licenses are available online.

    Outdoor Adventures

    Throughout the summer season, a variety of sports and special events are featured at Bluestone. Equipment for croquet, shuffleboard, horseshoe, basketball and volleyball is available for rent at the park office with a nominal fee. During the summer, the park naturalist hosts weekly, family-centered nature and recreation activities. Plenty of fun for all!

     

    Planning a picnic? The shelter at Bluestone State Park is available to rent from mid-May to Nov. 1. The activities building is open from April 1 to Dec. 1.

    Snow Sports

    In winter, downhill skiing is available at nearby Winterplace Ski Resort, located less than 25 miles from the park. Pipestem Resort State Park offers sled and cross-country ski rentals in the winter months at the park’s pro shop, when snow conditions are favorable.

    Swimming

    The outdoor swimming pool at Bluestone State Park is open to cabin guests Wednesday through Sunday, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Visitors may use the pool for a small fee. Call the park and check for specific days and hours as the pool is subject to seasonal closures.
