Mountain Creek: Dinner with a View

One of the nation’s most unique restaurants can only be enjoyed in West Virginia. A place everyone should try at least once, Mountain Creek is at the bottom of the Bluestone River Gorge at Pipestem Resort State Park and is accessible only by aerial tram.

On the 3,600-foot tram ride through Bluestone Gorge, guests are treated to stunning mountain views and breathtaking scenery. At the bottom of the gorge, Mountain Creek’s dining room has large windows where guests can watch deer graze while enjoying their own meals.

Known for outstanding gourmet food, Mountain Creek offers high-end American cuisine with an Appalachian flair. The restaurant has an extensive wine list, appetizers, entrees and homemade desserts. Guests can choose from nightly specials and regular menu items that encompass southern comfort food while maintaining the fine-dining standard.

Because of its unusual location, the restaurant is only open from mid-May to the end of October. Mountain Creek only serves dinner and reservations are recommended. If diners don’t get enough of the amazing views at dinner, they can stay at the lodge next door. The unique 30-room lodge offers modern accommodations and relaxing views of the Bluestone River.

“Unique! The tram ride down and up the mountain at night is fun. The restaurant overlooks a babbling brook and is very rustic. Food is very good with excellent service. We dined on sumptuous smoked prime rib and exquisite fresh vegetables. The overall experience was unforgettable. Don’t miss it!”

“Should be ranked as one of southern West Virginia’s hidden jewels! Food was great, staff was even better. We couldn’t have asked for a better evening and meal. It was something special and out of the ordinary! We will definitely be back.”
