Weekends at Bluestone State Park are extra special with activities that focus on the outdoors and nature pursuits. Join park naturalist and heritage craftsman Jonathan Lipscomb July 21-23, 2023 at these planned activities.

FRIDAY, July 21, 2023
1:30pm Water rockets and giant bubbles
So much fun! All ages. Meet at the pool house to play with some water rockets and make giant bubbles

3-5pm Handle carving
Not a CB handle, but a wooden one. Join our heritage artisan at the shelter below the events building to learn local history and the basics of handle making, *ypp

5-6pm Primitive Fire Starting
No matches! Join Lipscomb at the fire shelter behind the events building to learn the basics of flint and steel fire starting. *ypp

7-9pm Weekly Campfire
Join me at the fire shelter below the events building to swap stories, relax, and learn basic campfire cooking skills. Servings are $2 each

9-10pm Fireflies and Astronomy
The evening lights up with fireflies. Join me at the events building to watch the fireflies and the stars. *ypp

SATURDAY, July 22, 2023
8-9am Talking Turkey
Meet behind the activities building to learn about the wild turkey and see if we can talk with them. *ypp

10 am Eagle Point Nature Hike
Meet the naturalist at the overlook on the Bluestone State Park road to take a scenic hike along the park’s newest trail. This trail is 1mi. Each way, long pants, closed toed shoes, and water are recommended.

3pm Lets fly a kite
Meet at the pool house to learn the basics of kite design and give one a fly. *ypp

6-8pm Tye dye
Best place to be is at the Bluestone State Park swimming pool to create a one of a kind souvenir. shirts are $10 for a park shirt, $5 if you bring your own.

9-10pm Mothing with National moth Week
Join Naturalist Jonathan at the events building to celebrate national moth week as we see what nocturnal insects we can entice to visit. *ypp

SUNDAY, July 23, 2023
9am Lets go fishing
Join me at the fishing pier below the office for some morning fishing. Bring your gear or borrow ours. Those over 15 may purchase a license at huntwv.com *ypp

1pm Stream Exploration
Join me at the office to explore one of our local streams and see what lives there. Dress to get your feet wet *ypp

4pm Nature Hike
Join me at the Meador bathhouse to work up an appetite as we hike up the overlook trail. This trail is 1 mi. each way. Long pants, closed toed shoes, and water are recommended. *ypp

*ypp are young people for parks programs. These programs are focused on fun education for ages 6-16. Although, all ages are welcome to attend. ** All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
