Supermoon Spectacular: Chief Logan

August 12, 2022 @ 9:00 am

Tonight is the night for sky-watching! Look through a computerized telescope at various
celestial bodies including the moon, planets, galaxies, and more. This program begins at 9:00 p.m. until midnight on August 12, 2022 at Chief Logan Lodge, fire pit. Naturalist Lauren Cole is your Supermoon host.

Learn seasonal constellations and other cool facts about the night sky. Jupiter (10:26 PM) and Saturn (8:28 PM) should be visible. The full Corn moon will be a “Supermoon,” which is around 15 percent larger and brighter than an average full moon.

The program will include a star wheel craft and a Moon Pie! Participants of all ages are welcome. No fee to participate. Social distancing is encouraged. This activity can require patience that may be difficult for younger children. Rain will cancel this program.

Also on the 12th, one of the best meteor showers, the Perseids, will be at its peak. The bright moon may wash out the meteors, but there’s a good chance of seeing them at 100+ meteors an hour! Cloudiness may reduce visibility of celestial objects and cannot be helped. Questions about this program? Email Lauren.E.Cole@wv.gov.

Don’t forget! August 12, 2022 is the Chief Logan Farm-to-Table Dinner. Click here for the “Down Home Appalachian” meal.
