Weekend fun at Cacapon is about things you can find in nature. Join us July 8-10, 2022 for these free programs and if you can’t attend an activity visit the nature center that is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Activities are at the nature center unless indicated.

Meet at the Nature Center, then head out to the lake! Learn how to tie a fishing hook, then cast out! Fishing poles & worms provided(limited amount) or bring your own. (1hour) YPP

Discover the variety of owls by sight and sound!
What do they eat? Find out by dissecting an owl pellet!
Power of Pollinators
Join the summer naturalists to learn the importance of pollinators and try to find some! From butterflies to tiny insects, you’ll be impressed with the number of different pollinators you’ll spy. YPP
Look up! What type of cloud do you see? Join seasonal naturalist to learn about some common clouds. YPP

Three Rivers Avian Center returns with live birds of prey free education program: live owls, hawks, & eagles. Park gazebo, bring chairs for extra seating.
Immediately following the wings of wonder program, join us at the campfire circle for an evening of fun: campfire songs and marshmallows!

Berkeley Springs State Park Orientation & History
Meet summer naturalist at the warm springs near George Washington’s Bathtub at Berkeley Springs State Park. Drop in anytime from 10:00-11:30am to see historic photos of the park through the years.

Power of Pollinators
Join the summer naturalist to learn the importance of pollinators and try to find some! This is an awesome program. Join us! YPP
Learn about the park’s many invasive plants and help battle them. We’ll be doing some removals so you can learn the process perhaps on our property. Loppers provided.
About the nature center:
The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park’s history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41. Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern gray wolf! Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes.
About Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it into the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
