FRIDAY, October 13, 2023
Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
11:00 a.m. Leaf Pounding
Join the seasonal naturalist, Kenny, for this unique craft. Craft fee: $2.00.
1:00 p.m. Spooky Leaf Hike
Meet Naturalist Kenny at the Sled Run for this hike along a portion of two park
trails: Shay Trace and Cherry Lane. About 90 minutes. 1.5 miles. YPP
2:00 p.m. Light Pollution and Solution-You!
Join the park naturalist for this program about light pollution and the impacts it has on wildlife and us. Also, discover ways you can help. About 1 hour. YPP
5:00 p.m. Ramblin’ Ranger-Let’s Talk Turkey
Find the park naturalist in Blackwater Lodge Lobby with her display about the wild turkey. Children can craft a turkey call. The naturalist will be available in the lobby for about 2 hours. Let’s see who can gobble. YPP

Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
10:00 a.m. Colors of Fall Hike
Join the park naturalist to explore the different colors of fall. Why do the trees change in the fall? How can you identify some of the trees? About 70 minutes. 1.5 miles. YPP
11:00 a.m. Toddler Time
Toddlers can get creative with fingerpaint while watching a short video about two snowdrifts as they introduce the viewer to forest friends and reminisce about the time a mysterious stranger came to visit. About 30 minutes. YPP
12:00 p.m. Spooky Leaf Craft
Join the staff to use crayons, wax paper, and an iron to create a window decoration. Craft fee: $1.00
1:00 p.m. Decoupage Mason Jar Candle
Make your own fall decorative jar or Blackwater Falls Souvenir. About 1 hour. craft fee $3.00
3:00 p.m. The Buzz on Bees and Candle Making
Join the seasonal naturalist for information about our state insect and Native Bees to West Virginia while making a tin candle. Supplies limited to first come basis. About 1 hour. Craft fee: $4.00
5:00 p.m. Fire Bug
Join the seasonal naturalist at the campfire circle to learn how to use flint and steel to start a fire.
7:00 p.m. Owl-O-Ween
Join the seasonal naturalist for an indoor presentation about Owls that call West Virginia home or vacation in the mountain state. Afterwards, enjoy a short hike listening for the raptors of the night and About 1.5 hours. YPP
SUNDAY, October 15, 2023
Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
10:00 a.m. Edible and Medicinal Plant Walk
Join the seasonal naturalist as he picks out a few plants along a short hike that has edible or medicinal qualities. About 1 hour. About 1/2 mile. YPP
11:45 a.m. Snookball- What is this game?
How do you play? Find out with the recreation attendant. About 30 minutes.
1:00 p.m. The Great Migration
Can you survive the migration route of our feathered friends? Find out in the fun game for the entire family. Young children may need help during the activity. About 30 minutes. YPP
2:30 p.m. Mushrooms
Join the seasonal naturalist to learn about some mushrooms found in West Virginia. About 1 hour. YPP
MONDAY October 16, 2023

11:00 a.m. Halloween Fun Movie
Join the attendant for this movie about a dog and his friend that discover a “scary dog,” a haunted house and form a bond with bumbling burglars. Rated PG. About 1.5 hours.
