November Spirit: Cacapon
November 1, 2023 – November 10, 2023
The Cacapon nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41. Visit daily from 9:30AM – 4:30PM. All activities and programs start at the nature center unless noted. Hope to see you November 1 – 10, 2023 for these activities at Cacapon Resort State Park.

10:00AM The CCC Boys: A West Virginia Legacy
The CCC boys left a legacy that can still be enjoyed all over WV in the forests they planted and parks they helped to build. (30 min film)
1:00PM Spirit of Cacapon
Meet at the Nature Center to take a short walk and discover how the CCC boys…the Civilian Conservation Corps left their mark on Cacapon.

Fall is in the air! Let’s take a short hike and learn more on identifying some of WV’s common trees.
11:00AM-1:30PM Art with Ari
Join local artist and park volunteer to learn how to perfect clouds on canvas: The Dance of Clouds. This will be a two part series continuing on November 16. This class is for all ages, and same day walk ins. $5 Class fee.

10:00AM Wonders of the White-tailed Deer
Whether you look in awe at a newborn fawn or are frustrated because a herd of deer ate your Hostas or are angered because your car has been damaged in an accident, white-tailed deer are amazing animals. Come learn the characteristics of deer and history of white-tailed deer in WV. Let’s share some management ideas, feel a pelt, make a footprint and tell stories of this magnificent creature.

Come help battle the park’s non-native invasive plants! Learn about Japanese Barberry, Oriental Bittersweet, and Japanese Stilt grass. Join this interpretive walk and help pull some plants along the way.

Learn about the sights and sounds of Cacapon’s common woodpeckers.
At the Nature Center.
West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf! Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes.
