National Trails Day Hike: Chief Logan

June 3, 2023 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

It’s National Trails Day.

Set foot at Chief Logan State Park and take a hike on National Trails Day with park naturalist Lauren Cole. The Coal Mine Trail is a moderate hike of about four miles. The pace will be determined by participants. Short stops are part of the activity to learn about the impact of coal in Southern West Virginia, see old coal mine structures (coal silo, tipple and more), as well as flora and fauna encountered along the trail. Youth should be accompanied by an adult or responsible individual.

Meet at the “Pickin’ in the Park/Activities Building” at 10:00 a.m. The meeting area near and below the campground area with ample parking. Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather and only closed-toed walking or hiking shoes. There is no fee to participate.

Attendees receive a Trails Day patch at the conclusion of the hike. For more information contact Lauren.E.Cole@wv.gov.
