National Public Lands Day Celebration – Cacapon Resort State Park - September 26, 2026

September 26 All day

National Public Lands Day is a collective act of care that strengthens our connection to the landscape and to each other. Through service and celebration, we acknowledge our place as custodians of these shared treasures, ensuring the American tradition of public lands endures for those who will inherit them. This year, there’s even more reason to show up. National Public Lands Day (NPLD) falls during a landmark year as America celebrates its 250th anniversary. What better way to mark the occasion than by giving back to the public lands we all share.

BioBlitz Walk: 10 a.m.

iNaturalist is an online community for sharing nature observations, identifying species, and contributing to science and conservation data. Meet at the nature center for this National Public Land Day Bioblitz with NEEF. Explore the monarch waystation, forested areas along a trail, and pond habitats.

Harvest Moon Hike: 7:15 p.m.

Have a night sky friendly light to bring with you and dress for the weather. Each walk will have two options. One is a short hike to the upper lake (30 min.) and the other continues forward to the North Fork Cabins (1.5 hours). Things that may be seen and/or heard: stars, moon, salamanders, bats, owls, whip-poor-will, fireflies, deer, etc. Local geology & park history could be discussed. Friendly, leashed pets are welcome.
