September 24, 2022

The Monarch Butterfly is West Virginia’s official state butterfly. On Saturday, September 24, 2022, two exceptional program activities are planned to celebrate this endangered species.

Special Guest Tess Dew – Monarch Alliance
Cacapon Resort State Park invites you to a great program about the migration of Monarchs to Mexico. The guest speaker is Tess Dew with the Monarch Alliance. She shares the journey of the insect and the life cycle. This special program will be at the nature center, September 24, 2022 at 10:30a.m. It is an all age invitation.

Monarch Tagging Program
At 1:00 p.m., also at the nature center, is the Monarch Butterfly Tagging program. Join the state park naturalist to be part of MonarchWatch’s tagging program.

There is no charge to attend one or both of these programs. You’ll also see the demonstration pollinator zone at the nature center.

Valerie Chaney, CIG and Allen Miller are park naturalists at Cacapon Resort. For additional information about this Monarch Program or Cacapon’s pollinator zones, email valerie.l.chaney@wv.gov.
