WEDNESDAY, June 28, 2023

Meet at the nature center and learn about our threatened Eastern Box Turtle. It’s the only land turtle in West Virginia.

Join Ed Daniels from Shady Grove Botanicals at the nature center and learn all about farming ginseng.
FRIDAY, June, 30, 2023

This is an accessible walk around the Administration Building and Rec Hall to discover what lives in the field and along the forest edge.
3:00PM – Who Was Here?
Learn all about animal tracks and signs in the forest at the nature center.
4:00PM – Bear Necessities
Let’s review the habits and habitat of the Black Bear, West Virginia’s state animal.
8:00PM – Walk in the Twilight Zone
We’ll take an evening walk and look for bats, owls, and other night creatures. Bring a flashlight and meet at the pool Bath House. Let’s learn how nocturnal animals get around in the dark.
SATURDAY, July 1, 2023

9:30AM – Bear Necessities
Let’s review the habits and habitat of the Black Bear, West Virginia’s state animal.
11:00 – Noon – Creek Critter Crawl
We’ll search Howard’s Lick for wildlife and learn some stream ecology! Meet by the Pool Bath House. You’ll get your feel wet.
4:00 – 5:00PM – Nature Bingo
It’s game time at the nature center playing Nature Bingo. We’ll play inside or outside on the deck depending upon the weather.
7:00 – 8:00PM – Campfire Time!
The fire pit is across from the Rec Hall. We’ll have a fire going and some stories and tales.

The history about the remarkable past of Lost River State Park includes “Light Horse” Harry Lee, the Lee Sulphur Springs Resort and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Stop by the Lee House to learn more. Follow the sign by Cabin 1 & 2 across from the swimming pool.
