WEDNESDAY, June 28, 2023

2:00PM – Box Turtle Talk
Meet at the nature center and learn about our threatened Eastern Box Turtle. It’s the only land
turtle in West Virginia.

11:00AM – Forest Farming Ginseng
Join Ed Daniels from Shady Grove Botanicals at the nature center and learn all about farming
ginseng.
FRIDAY, June, 30, 2023
Nature Center Hours: 2:00 – 5:00PM
1:00PM – Nature Ramble
This is an accessible walk around the Administration Building and Rec Hall to discover what
lives in the field and along the forest edge.
3:00PM – Who Was Here?
Learn all about animal tracks and signs in the forest at the nature center.
4:00PM – Bear Necessities
Letโs review the habits and habitat of the Black Bear, West Virginia’s state animal.
8:00PM – Walk in the Twilight Zone
Weโll take an evening walk and look for bats, owls, and other night creatures. Bring a flashlight
and meet at the pool Bath House. Letโs learn how nocturnal animals get around in the dark.
SATURDAY, July 1, 2023

Nature Center Hours: 9:00 – 11:00AM
9:30AM – Bear Necessities
Letโs review the habits and habitat of the Black Bear, West Virginia’s state animal.
11:00 – Noon – Creek Critter Crawl
Weโll search Howardโs Lick for wildlife and learn some stream ecology! Meet by the Pool Bath
House. Youโll get your feel wet.
4:00 – 5:00PM – Nature Bingo
Itโs game time at the nature center playing Nature Bingo. Weโll play inside or outside on the
deck depending upon the weather.
7:00 – 8:00PM – Campfire Time!
The fire pit is across from the Rec Hall. Weโll have a fire going and some stories and tales.
