July 4th Weekend Activities: Bluestone
June 30, 2023 – July 4, 2023
Bluestone State Park offers youth and family friendly activities hosted by Jonathan Lipscomb, Naturalist and activities director from June 30 to July 4, 2023. Activities at Bluestone state park are free to attend unless indicated and open to the public. Cabin guests, campers, and the general public are encouraged to participate.
FRIDAY, June 30, 2023
3-5pm Spoon Carving
Did you know you can carve a spoon? Naturalist and heritage artist invites you to the shelter below the events building to learn local history and the basics of spoon making, *ypp
5-6pm primitive fire starting
Join me at the fire shelter behind the events building to learn the basics of flint and steel fire starting. *ypp
7-9pm Weekly Campfire
Bluestone Campfire is at the fire shelter below the events building. We’ll swap stories, relax, and learn basic campfire cooking skills. Servings are $1 each
9-10pm Fireflies and Astronomy
The events building is the place to meet to watch the fireflies and the stars. *ypp
SATURDAY, July 1, 2023
9-11am Scat and Tracks
Meet at the office for a hike along the river view trail looking for tracks and scat *ypp
2-3pm Giant bubbles and water rockets
This is such a fun activity. Come to the field next to the pool to play with huge (really big) bubbles and water rockets.
4-6pm Rummy game
Card fun! Join me near the picnic shelter for a lively game of rummy. All ages welcomed.
6-8pm Tye dye
Join naturalist Jonathan at the pool to create a one of a kind souvenir. shirts are $10 for a park shirt, $5 if you bring your own.
SUNDAY, July 2, 2023
9-11am Sunday morning fishing
There’s no better time than a relaxing morning fishing and learning about different types of fishing equipment at the fishing pier below the office. Bring your own equipment or borrow one of ours All ages are welcome to join, although ages 15 up require a license which can be found and purchased at www.wvfish.com *ypp
12-2pm Kite Flying
Let’s go fly a kite. Meet at the pool house for some kite fun *ypp
3-4pm Lets play catch
Join Naturalist Jonathan at the pool house to play some catch in our new field
6-8pm Tye dye
Make your wearable art. Meet at the pool to create a one of a kind souvenir. Shirts are $10 for a park shirt, $5 if you bring your own.

Birding is fun! Meet at the fishing pier below the office to observe some of the water birds that frequent the lake.
10am Stream Exploration
Meet at the office for a trip to one of our creeks to see what lives in its ecosystem

Join the naturalist at the Meador Bathhouse to make your own chalk art
