Meet the Naturalist at 8:45 pm in front of the 18 Hole Golf Pro Shop for a Full Moon Hike. The August full moon will occur on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 8:53 p.m. ET Pipestem time.
This moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon because sturgeons, a type of fish, are more efficiently caught in August and early September. Or more appropriately for West Virginia, The Fly Up Moon, a Cree term describing the time when young birds are finally ready to take the leap and learn to fly.
The walk will follow the paved golf cart along holes 1-9. Bring a flashlight and dress appropriately for the weather. Hint: There may be times the moon is so bright we won’t even need a flashlight! Meet in front of the Golf Pro Shop.

This hike is approximately 2.5 miles and takes about 1.5 hours.
