Hike by the light of a full moon at Cass on July 29, 2023.
The “Full Sturgeon Moon” hike at Cass Scenic Railroad begins from the visitor’s center at 8:30 PM. This evening walk, led by Park Superintendent Marshall Markley or designee, is about three miles round trip with a slight grade, but mostly flat hiking. The hike is free and open to the public.
The August full moon is known as the Full Sturgeon Moon. Named so since the Sturgeon, a large fish, was most readily caught during this month.
Other names for the August Full Moon are the Full Red Moon, Black Cherries Moon, Harvest Moon, and Mountain Shadows Moon.
