First Day Hike at Cacapon Resort State Park - January 1, 2026

Jump into the New Year with America’s State Parks First Day Hike! What better way to start the new year than enjoying nature with family and friends.

Join the park naturalists and volunteers for three hiking options: Laurel Trail is a moderate 2.5-mile hike providing scenic views; Hovermale Homestead is an easy 1.2-mile loop trail following a mountain stream near the park boundary and family homestead area; Cabin Loop trail is an easy mile trail near the park’s legacy cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Camp Morgan in the late 1930’s.

All hikes start at 10 a.m. and begin at the nature center. Dress for the weather, and be sure to bring water and snacks.
