Add These 4 Parks to Your Fall Bucket List

As the summer days wind down, it’s never too early to build your Almost Heaven fall itinerary. The wild and wonderful roads and leaf-falling fun are endless in the Mountain State. The lingering question is, where to next? Regardless of your destination, you’ll experience the autumn you’ve always dreamed of here in West Virginia.

Babcock State Park

The iconic Glade Creek Grist Mill at Babcock State Park can’t be missed on your fall bucket list! A staple of the park, the weather-beaten mill is a picturesque scene surrounded by autumn-painted trees and a trickling stream. Don’t forget to grab a #AlmostHeaven Swing photo for the scrapbook!

Babcock State Park has more to offer than just a beacon of rich history. Explore 20+ miles of fall-filled treks, cast a line and wait for your big catch, or search for hidden treasures while geocaching. There’s no shortage of memory-making at this fall destination!

Coopers Rock State Forest

Fall back in time at Coopers Rock State Forest, where history lives among the winding forest trails. Search for whispers of the past in the sandstone cliffs or by the first steam-powered blast furnace. With nearly 50 miles of trails to explore, take the chance and submerge yourself in the changing leaves and bountiful trees. Get a bird’s-eye view of the forest beauty at the Coopers Rock Scenic Overlook, and prepare to be awed.

If one day of adventure doesn’t quite check the destination off the list, plant your stakes at a primitive campground in Cooper Rock State Forest. Let the sights and sounds of nature soothe you and remind you what Almost Heaven feels like.

North Bend State Park

Step inside North Bend State Park and check off another picture-perfect fall haven. This park holds a 305-acre lake, accompanied by a boat ramp, fishing pier and your next special fishin’ spot. Hop into a kayak and explore the recreational lake surrounded by forestry and wildlife. Fire up your hot wheels on the North Bend Rail Trail, which has 72 miles of flat trail, ready for all the bike speeds. If spending a day by the water or poppin’ a wheelie isn’t your style, there are plenty of other outdoor adventures to experience.

Cozy up with a cup of pumpkin spice delight at the North Bend State Park Lodge. Once you step inside, you will be greeted with a smile and wrapped in the arms of nostalgic comfort. Just steps away from the welcome desk is a full-service restaurant, ready to give you the warm meal you’ve been pining for. The lodge feels like your home away from home, begging you to stay a little longer.

Cacapon Resort State Park

Resting in the rolling hills of the Eastern Panhandle is Cacapon Resort State Park, offering more than just a scenic getaway. The fall foliage proves a yellow and red beauty that a camera cannot contain. Let the colors swirl around as you horseback ride, challenge yourself on a hike, or drop a line at one of the lakes. As you tee off at the green, slow down and breathe in the cool autumn breeze. This par 72 course offers an enjoyable game of golf for beginners and pros alike. Whether coming off an exhilarating bike ride or firing away at the Wobble Clay Range, soak in peak relaxation at the Healing Waters Spa. Tranquility and nature meet at Cacapon Resort State Park, giving you harvest season memories you never knew you needed.
