Celebrate Fall Foliage with WonderFall Walks at West Virginia State Parks

South Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginia State Parks is pleased to announce the return of WonderFall Walks, a series of guided hikes celebrating the beauty of the state’s fall foliage. These walks, led by park naturalists, offer participants a chance to earn the coveted WonderFall WV State Park hiking patch while experiencing the vibrant colors of autumn in West Virginia. Whether you’re an avid hiker or just looking for a leisurely stroll, there’s a WonderFall Walk for everyone.

“We’re thrilled to once again offer our guests the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of West Virginia during one of the most spectacular times of the year,” said Acting WV State Parks Chief Dillard Price. “These hikes provide not only an immersive experience in our parks but also a way for families and individuals to connect with nature and enjoy the fall season.”

WonderFall Walk Schedule Highlights:

  • North Bend State Park
    October 11, 2024 – 5:00 PM
    Walk along the Access and Rail Trails, exploring two tunnels along the way. Registration is required. Contact North Bend State Park at 304-643-2931.
  • Kanawha State Forest
    October 12, 2024 – 10:00 AM
    Take a moderate 3.5-mile hike featuring the Castle Rock overlook and the rich diversity of the forest. Meet at the Nature Center/Forest Headquarters.
  • Twin Falls State Park

October 12, 2024 – 2:00 PM

Celebrate the fall foliage by taking a park naturalist guided hike to earn a WonderFall WV State Park hiking patch! Meet at the Falls TrailHead. 

  • Pipestem Resort State Park
    October 12, 2024 – 1:00 PM
    Join a 1-mile hike exploring the park’s pre-park history. Meet at Park Headquarters.
  • Tygart Lake State Park

October 12, 2024 – 10:00AM

Come join Park Naturalist Jacob Jackson for a nature walk to celebrate the Fall season! Meet and depart from the Nature Center at 10:00 AM for a walk on the Ridge Trail.

  • Cacapon Resort State Park
    October 19, 2024 – 10:00 AM
    Hike the Cacapon Mountain fire road near the overlook, the highest peak in the Eastern Panhandle. Meet at Cacapon Mountain Overlook.

Each hike is led by knowledgeable park naturalists who will provide insights into the local environment, history, and wildlife. Most hikes are suitable for all ages, and many welcome dogs on leashes. Participants in the WonderFall Walks will receive a WonderFall Walk patch.
