Circle B Stables
Take a horseback ride with a Circle B Stables guide at Kanawha State Forest. There are four designated trails to promote a unique riding experience: Stables Trail, Blazing Saddles Trail, Portercamp Road and Old Boundary Road (between White Trail and the Veterans Memorial Trail). Stables Trail and Blazing Saddles can be used from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Portercamp Road and Old Boundary Road are open for daily use. The guided ride times are 30 minutes and one-hour routes. Advanced reservation is encouraged. There is designated parking for horse-stable users only. To make riding reservations, contact CircleBStable@outlook.com or online here.
Shooting Range
A free-of-charge and covered shooting range is open daily in Kanawha State Forest. Only paper targets are allowed. The range is open during daylight hours and subject to closure for maintenance.
The range closes on the first Monday of each month for maintenance. If the first Monday of the month falls on a holiday, range maintenance will occur on the second Monday instead. Updates and announcements for the range are posted frequently by the Kanawha State Forest Foundation on the Facebook page KSSFoundation.
Paper, clay and tin targets are permitted. Skeet and trap-style shooting is not allowed. Range hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from May 1 through September 30 and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from October 1 through April 30.
Picnicking
The forest has numerous picnic sites with tables, grills and nearby restroom facilities. Nine picnic shelters are available to rent for a nominal fee; an advanced reservation is encouraged for large groups.
